PuTTy is a free ssh and telnet client which allows you to remotely login to acad.kutztown.edu or another server from your home computer. It does not use an installer, just create a subdirectory and place the Putty.exe file inside. Recommended directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Putty

The unix system is accessed using a commmand line interface. In order to successfully navigate the system, it is necessay to learn several unix commands. Useful commands are listed below and are demonstrated in the video walk through. A full list of unix commands can be found here.

Common Unix Commands
mkdir directoryName	creates a new directory
ls	list files in current directory
cd	change directory to your home directory
cd directoryName	change directory into directoryName
cd ..	move up on directory
cp /pathTo/source/filename /pathTo/copy/filename	copy file from source directory to target directory
mv /pathTo/source/filename /pathTo/move/filename	move file from source directory to target directory
rm filename	removes (deletes) a file
rmdir directoryName	removes (deletes) a directory
pwd	display the path to current directory

GNU Emacs is an extensible, customizable text editor. The editor includeds content-sensitive editing modes, including syntax coloring, for a variety of file types including plain text, source code, and HTML.
